Incredibly thorough survey with helpful advice and recommendations

Do your due diligence and ask some questions from your surveyors before you hire one. They are all different and are very subjective. They also wield a lot of power over you. I have had my boat since 1994 and it is a 1981 model. PR Marine Surveyors had done every survey when required and I had always been happy. The boat has only been upgraded since those times. Then the owner unfortunately passed away and Roger took over. He found a few small things wrong which isn't a problem, cheap and easy to fix. But he also in his opinion thinks that this 38 year old boat should conform to 2019 standards in some areas which would be expensive and very hard to rectify without major renovations. I totally disagree and if I had to find a surveyor again I would not pick this company.

Roger arrived to the survey on time, as scheduled. We had discussed the boat earlier and that helped Roger prepare. He began his work with me in attendance. He had several cogent observations about the boat as his work progressed. He also had a few questions, most of which I was able to answer. He explored every inch of the boat, taking many pictures to record his observations. He had a couple of safety-related recommendations, which I appreciated. Partially relying on Roger's experience and his positive observations, we decided to purchase this boat.The actual report was somewhat delayed due to Roger's workload but otherwise we are well-pleased with his professionalism and service.

Cassiar Cannery is truly and undeniably a very unique lodging. My family and I are very adventurous people and are always looking for the most unique places to stay and Cassiar fit the bill exceedingly well. It is a million dollar view, for less than the hotels in Prince Rupert and in Rupert, you get a very boring stay in a very boring building. We loved everything about Cassiar and we will stay there again. The Steelhead house where we stayed was very nicely appointed and has beautiful first nations framed art that I would love in my home. The large handmade cedar table was a superb added touch for our large family dinner. My girls loved flipping rocks looking for creatures at low tide and playing with Kuma,Betty and Veronica the very docile, gentle dogs. I appreciated the gated entrance which gives your stay that extra feeling of privilege as this is your home while you are at Cassiar. The scenery is exceptional and so nice to be away from the major centre of Prince Rupert. I prefer giving my hard earned cash to a family operation and Cassiar is a family operation.I am very excited about the VIA rail stop that is possible to organize and that maybe how we get there on our next trip from Edmonton. Memories are not made in the chain hotels. Memories are made when you take and adventure from the norm.look no further, a million dollar view for pennies per night.

My wife and I recently moved to Vancouver Island to retire with the water and mountains. We had been planning for several months to purchase a boat to enjoy time with friends and family. We have a boat load (pardon the pun) of grand children so we were particularly motivated to make sure we purchased a sea worthy vessel. Despite having a competent mechanical background I soon realized hiring a professional surveyor was the only way to go. We were very fortunate to hook up with Dale at The Marine Butler. From the first contact Dale made it clear that we could call anytime with questions and also forward listings of potential boats that he would give us his opinion. He spent hours of his time helping find the right boat for the type of boating we wanted to do. The Marine Butler does not charge for this service and I must say having a 42 year seaman to bounce things off gave us the confidence to make the right decisions. Dale surveyed two boats for us. The surveys were very thorough leaving no stones unturned. With Dale's help we purchased a great boat.
