A notre arrivée on a demandé si ca va etre penible.

As Vice Commodore of the Sidney Saanich Yacht Club, I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting members of their Executive Committee. A very professional group of individuals belonging to a Sailing Association steeped in a proud rich history.Bill Brown

The Boathouse
Came for Reggie Watts, stayed for Leonard Cohen. Amazing pizza, this place should really think about getting a publicist - contact the chef (sometimes) Nathan for more info.

My daughter took sailing lessons there so we were given temporary membership for a month. When I went in to ask about getting a cup of coffee or something the receptionist quickly told me that their kitchen was closed but if I wanted to look around that would be fine. I went and used the bathroom and then when I came out she said that if I wanted a glass of water it was the best she could do. I said, water would be great thank you. As I proceeded to go in a little further she came out and asked if I wanted it to go? I said actually yes that would be nice. Thoughtful I thought.A few days later I noticed that people were having drinks so I when I saw a person clearing the glasses I asked if I could get a drink and she said, absolutely but I would have to go inside and order it from the bar. I went all the way around and as the club is not wheelchair accessible from any other side than the front. I ordered a drink and carried it around to the back where I was sitting.I was also informed that the although the dining room was closed till five pm. The bar however was indeed open and the kitchen was open all day Fridays. Hmmm this certainly gave food for thought. On the following Friday I decided to get a drink and something to drink. I went in and placed my order, and I was handed my OJ and a number, which was a metal basket holding salt, pepper and ketchup. I don’t know how it escaped the waitress’s attention that I needed one hand to drive my wheelchair. I raised my eyebrows and she said you need to take it so we can find you to bring your food out to you. So I hung that metal container on my wrist while holding on to my OJ and off I went. Now there is a lip where the patio starts and no matter how slowly or carefully I went over that lip it’s very bumpy. I ended up spilling my drink all over my self. That is the kind of staff that is in the club part. Or perhaps because I was only a “temporary” member? I don’t want to speculate about me being in a wheelchair or the colour of my skin or the socioeconomic thingy because I don’t want to think the worst about people but I definitely do believe that the staff needs to work on their customer service skills. Perhaps they can learn a few things from the amazing young coaches that train our young how to be great little sailors.

A member invited us over for a cruise, cocktails and appetizers. It was our first chance to tour the new club house! Exactly what one would expect from one of the most extraordinarily competitive sailing clubs in the states: sleek, functional, well tuned and very inviting. Unfortunately, there are no social memberships offered but YCA reciprocity is recognized.
